Can I take an existing patented technology/product and create a new application and patent it?

If an existing patent says its application is for the wrist, can I say that the technology is useful for the entire body and get it patented?
if you say entire body then you are including the wrist, so the answer would be no. However, if you modify the technology in some slight way and then say it is for the entire body, you probably will get the approval.
