Knowing the Wi-Fi capabilities of your notebook
Are you currently searching for laptops with Wi-Fi facilities? Well, before you buy notebooks that have Wi-Fi capabilities, it is very important to know the type of Wi-Fi facility that will come with your new notebook. Laptops have always remained a popular computer gadget for those who are always on the run and looking for something light and flexible that they can carry along whenever and wherever they go. Many experts and critics had claimed that the market for notebooks would not last long but laptop market hasn’t died out yet. Many well established companies like Dell, HP, Acer, Sony and Toshiba are coming out with new models every day to lure more customers with their latest offerings.
However, these notebooks that have Wi-Fi technology have a catch. Many a times they support only 802.11g technology which is already outdated, and not the new Wi-Fi technology known as 802.11n. Now, does that make any difference? Yes, it does.
If you are at a Wi-Fi hotspot, your 802.11n-capable notebook will work better than those who are using the 802.11g systems in their notebook. Also, if you are in a Wi-Fi spot that uses 802.11n network and if you are using the 802.11g system, the network will need to run in backward compatibility mode to sync with 802.11g devices and ultimately this will slow down the performance of all your wireless devices.
Many notebook vendors do advertize that they have Wi-Fi system in their notebooks but they rarely mentioned that only a few specific models have 802.11n configuration. However, many notebook vendors do provide an upgrade facility for the customers who can later switch to the new 802.11n Wi-Fi system. However, even today if you are searching for any notebooks with Wi-Fi facilities you will find 802.11g as a standard option.
