Which is the most popular JAVA technology today among applet/JSP/Struts etc. for web apps and why?

I am new to Java. I have limited time. I need to know which is the most popular Java technology for web based application. There are lot of talk about applet, JSP etc etc. I am not sure which one is the most widely used the industry now a days.

Please let me know if there is a simple tutorial available on web. What do I need to download. If you have a book to recommend. Thanks.

    The most popular today are Struts,EJB and Spring remember Struts and Spring are seperate frameworks. And if you are new to java then first learn Core Java. Download tools + JDK from here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp. then complete the tuts here http://java.sun.com/learning/tutorial/index.html
